Is Quebec’s government preparing new iGaming monopoly push?

Close up of the ace cardThe government in Quebec seems to be making a new push to expand iGaming offerings in the province. Loto Quebec, the government-run entity responsible for authorizing and providing legal gambling options in the province, recently announced it has come to an agreement to offer slot games designed by Australian company Lightning Box. While the agreement will bring the company into Canada for the first time, it is no stranger to North America, as it has a strong presence in the United States. With this latest move, Quebec’s government is looking to expand its online slot game offerings at a time when the type of gambling is becoming more and more popular.

What games are available to players?

The biggest question atop all online slot players’ minds is, what games are now available as a result of this agreement? The biggest title from the Australian slot design company is Lightning Horseman, which is now available to players in Quebec. This title is being offered through a partnership and integration with SG Digital.

In the first 24 hours after Lightning Horseman went live, it became the highest-earning slot game in the Quebecois state lottery. Also launched as part of Lightning Box’s entry into the Quebec province is their popular title Silver Lion. The company plans to launch more titles in the province in the future.

The popularity of Lightning Box’s games is one of the biggest reasons why Lotto Quebec was so interested in a partnership with the Australian company.

“Their games have always been well-received across the border and given hoe well Lightning Horseman has performed already, we’re looking forward to rolling out future titles in the near future,” said Marie-Eve Laberge, the product manager for Lotto Quebec. “We’re delighted to be the first operator in Canada to go live with Lightning Box’s games.”

No stranger to North America

Quebec represents Lightning Box’s first foray into Canada, but the company is no stranger to the North American market. In fact, the company has been in the United States for a little while now, and they’ve seen success south of the Canadian border.

“We’re very excited to have launched Lightning Horseman in Canada, our first game in the country,” CEO and co-founder of Lightning Box, Peter Causley, said. “Though this is our first title there, we have lots of experience in the North American market, and this game adds to the impact we have made in real money gaming, social and land-based casinos.”

Lightning Box is sure to offer more of its games and titles in the near future for Lotto Quebec players, especially with how successful Lightning Horseman was right out of the gate. As with most launches of this kind, companies often start small and then expand based on the success — or lack thereof — of their first few titles that are available.

Once it was clear that Lightning Horseman was going to perform so well with Lotto Quebec players, Lightning Box quickly made Silver Lion available, and has plans to roll out even more of its games in the months to follow.
